With all the pay to play and paying college athletes talk it got me thinking about some ways to make both college and pro sports better. One scenario that I was wondering about was to have college athletes graduate to go pro. I know this probably wouldn't work for some sports like Baseball that relies on the young kids for their minor leagues.
The NBA could benefit from this scenario I think. The NBA has lot of young talent right now and most of those are still developing leaving a gap in talent across the board in the league. For every Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Kevin Garnett, and etc... there are thousands of Kwame Brown's. There have been some one and done successes as well like Kevin Durant and Derick Rose. This year proved that experience can beat talent. VCU and Butler made the Final Four and upset some teams because of experience. Yes those teams have some talented players as well but experience is a very tough thing to replace. The rise of the Mid-Majors to prominence is because of having experienced players that have gotten years or playing at the collegiate level.
The NFL has a policy that an athlete has to be out of high school for at least 3 years. This policy seems to work for them. They tend to have quite a few athletes make impacts early on because they have more experience. But one more year of college football would make then have an even bigger impact. There are those that graduate early but usually they have at least 3 season under there belt first.
I don't know about the less popular sports since there isn't much talk about people leaving them early but I feel any athlete could benefit from extra experience before going pro. The College game and the Pro games would both benefit I think.
Whats your opinion on this topic?
I think it shouldn't be a requirement but it is just smart for an them to finish while its being paid for..
