2011 NFL Draft Recap

The 2011 NFL Draft is in the books.  Three Arkansas Razorbacks were drafted during the three day event. First was QB Ryan Mallett in the third round to the New England Patriots with the 74th pick. The next Razorback chosen came in the fifth round. TE DJ Williams was chosen by the World Champion Green Bay Packers with the 141st pick. The last Razorback chosen in the draft was OL Demarcus Love in the sixth round by the Minnesota Vikings. He was chosen with the 168th pick.  OL Ray Dominguez was the only other Razorback with draft potential but was not chosen in the draft.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves had a player chosen in the draft as well. OL Derek Newton was taken at pick 214 to the Houston Texans.  The UCA Bears had a player taken in the sixth round. LB Makell Carter was picked by the New England Patriots with the 194th pick. That is all of the players taken from an Arkansas school. There were several guys taken in the draft with Arkansas ties. TE Charles Clay from Tulsa(Central High School) was taken in the sixth round with the 174th pick by the Miami Dolphins.  OL Lee Ziemba from Auburn(Rogers) was taken in the seventh round at pick 244 by the Carolina Panthers. Ziemba may get the chance to block for his former college quarterback Cam Newton.  If there are other instate or guys with Arkansas ties that I missed then please let me know below in the comments.

The Dallas Cowboys are my favorite NFL team.  They had an ok draft. With their first pick they choose Tyron Smith OT from USC.  They other picks include Bruce Carter LB from North Carolina, DeMarco Murray RB from Oklahoma, David Arkin OL  from Missouri State,  Josh Thomas DB from Buffalo, Dwayne Harris WR from East Carolina, Shaun Chapas RB from Georgia, and Bill Nagy C from Wisconsin.  One thing I notice right away is the two running backs drafted. The Cowboys already have several running backs on the roster and the drafting of several more mean someone will be let go. My best guess is it will be Marion Barber. The Cowboys tried for a while to trade him with no luck.
