Super Bowl 49: Who you got?

Super Bowl XLIX is almost upon us. The defending champion Seattle Seahawks have made it back to back Super Bowls which is something that no one has done since their opponent New England Patriots did it back in 2003-2004. This years game is set to be better that last years debacle. Seattle has had a tough road to get back with an almost miraculous comeback against Green Bay to advance. Seattle almost feels like the team of destiny. New England is coming off a shellacking of Indy. Controversy as well with Deflate-Gate. New England is playing well and Seattle is struggling some. Both teams have a had a few weeks to rest and get focused. The big questions are: Is Seattle's secondary healthy?, and Can New England put away the distractions? New England has been playing good football for a while now so I will predict:

New England Patriots - 28
Seattle Seahawks- 20

Super Bowl 46: The Rematch

Super Bowl 46 is a rematch from Super Bowl 42. Every sports fans remembers that catch by David Tyree to save the drive and help the Eli and the Giants march down and win the game. The Giants are the underdogs again in this game but they have been on a hot streak as of late. The match-up everyone is talking about is Eli vs Brady. Both guys are trying to cement themselves in history with a win. Brady would join an elite group of quarterbacks who have won 4 Superbowl's. Those QB's are Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana. Not a bad couple of guys to be named with. Eli would also join elite group of quarterbacks with 2 plus wins. Big Ben and Brady are the only ones still active on that list. The Giants D has quietly been putting up some big stats. Patriots need Gronk to be healthy to add to that miss match-ups of the tight ends and Welker.  This should be good game. For those like me that dont have a dog in the fight you could root for the team with the most players from your favorite college. In my case that would be the Giants. They have 2 former Hogs on the team. Mitch Petrus and Tony Ugoh. They also have a guy from Arkansas in Stacy Andrews but he is on the IR. The Patriots only have one Hog and thats Ryan Mallett. Ryan will most likely not even be activated to play. Also as a Cowboys fan it is hard to root for the Giants. This is my prediction for the game: Giants 31 Patriots 24

Tebow Mania is OVER!

Al Bello - Getty Images
The New England Patriots have done the impossible and beat the all might Denver Broncos and their mile high messiah Tim Tebow, 45-10. It is no surprise that the Broncos get blown out with the defense playing horrible. Brady looked like he was playing catch out there. I'm not sure he even broke a sweat with his six touchdown passes. Tebow has made some great plays at times and put the Broncos in a position to win. If it wasn't for the defense and special teams then the Broncos lose several more games this past season and wouldn't have made the playoffs.Tebow needs to take some of that bonus money he got for the fluke win last week and send Matt Prater all expenses paid on a nice vacation.  I hope they put the Tebow and Tebowing talk to rest. He proved tonight he isn't ready for the big time. The Pats defense has one of the worst secondaries in the league and Tebow had horrible stats. I am sure for the next week we will hear all about the loss, but after that he should fade away for a while.

2011 NFL Draft Recap

The 2011 NFL Draft is in the books.  Three Arkansas Razorbacks were drafted during the three day event. First was QB Ryan Mallett in the third round to the New England Patriots with the 74th pick. The next Razorback chosen came in the fifth round. TE DJ Williams was chosen by the World Champion Green Bay Packers with the 141st pick. The last Razorback chosen in the draft was OL Demarcus Love in the sixth round by the Minnesota Vikings. He was chosen with the 168th pick.  OL Ray Dominguez was the only other Razorback with draft potential but was not chosen in the draft.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves had a player chosen in the draft as well. OL Derek Newton was taken at pick 214 to the Houston Texans.  The UCA Bears had a player taken in the sixth round. LB Makell Carter was picked by the New England Patriots with the 194th pick. That is all of the players taken from an Arkansas school. There were several guys taken in the draft with Arkansas ties. TE Charles Clay from Tulsa(Central High School) was taken in the sixth round with the 174th pick by the Miami Dolphins.  OL Lee Ziemba from Auburn(Rogers) was taken in the seventh round at pick 244 by the Carolina Panthers. Ziemba may get the chance to block for his former college quarterback Cam Newton.  If there are other instate or guys with Arkansas ties that I missed then please let me know below in the comments.

The Dallas Cowboys are my favorite NFL team.  They had an ok draft. With their first pick they choose Tyron Smith OT from USC.  They other picks include Bruce Carter LB from North Carolina, DeMarco Murray RB from Oklahoma, David Arkin OL  from Missouri State,  Josh Thomas DB from Buffalo, Dwayne Harris WR from East Carolina, Shaun Chapas RB from Georgia, and Bill Nagy C from Wisconsin.  One thing I notice right away is the two running backs drafted. The Cowboys already have several running backs on the roster and the drafting of several more mean someone will be let go. My best guess is it will be Marion Barber. The Cowboys tried for a while to trade him with no luck.
